This is an Austrian cap badge from World War I. It depicts three emperors/kings of the Central Powers:
- Franz Joseph I (left) – Emperor of Austria-Hungary (1848–1916).
- Wilhelm II (center) – Emperor of Germany (1888–1918).
- Mehmed V (right) – Sultan of the Ottoman Empire (1909–1918).
Such cap badges (Kappenabzeichen) were popular among soldiers of Austria-Hungary during World War I. They served as souvenirs, patriotic symbols, and sometimes as a substitute for orders and medals. Many of these badges were made of cheap metals and had various motifs, often featuring Allied heads of state.
The reverse of the badge shows the text: “ZU ERINNERUNG AN WELTKRIEG 1914”, which means “In memory of the World War 1914”.
