Description and Meaning:
Material: Made of tombac (a copper alloy) with enamel details.
Double Eagle: The imperial coat of arms of Austria-Hungary, symbolizing loyalty to the monarchy and the emperor.
Enamel colors: The red and white details refer to the heraldry of the Habsburg Monarchy.
Use:
Patriotic Badges (Patriotische Abzeichen) were issued in Austria-Hungary during World War I (1914–1918) to strengthen loyalty and morale.
These badges were worn by civilians and military personnel as a symbol of support for the emperor and the war effort.
On the back there was often a clip-on attachment (aufklappbare Befestigungsklammer), which made it possible to wear the badge on uniforms, hats or jackets.
