Description

The Hungarian (Kingdom of Hungary), 1938 Return of the northern territories (Felvidék) remembrance medal.

The Return of the northern territories (Felvidék) remembrance medal was a recognition established for the personnel of the Hungarian armed forces and Gendarmerie who took part in the return of the lost northern territories (Felvidék) in 1920 , annexed to Hungary based on the First Vienna Decision of 1938. 

On the obverse side of the bronze medal the portrait of Francis II Rákóczi. (A Hungarian nobleman and leader of Rákóczi’s War of Independence against the Habsburgs in 1703–11. Today he is considered a national hero in Hungary.)  is visible and the circular inscription “PRO PATRIA ET LIBERTATE RÁKÓCZI”. On the reverse side is the inscription “In memory of the Liberation of the Hungarian northern territories (Felvidék) 1938″. 

The recognition was given to thousands of soldiers and gendarmes who participated in the military operations and they were moved  from their original stations during the mobilizations related reintegration. 

The award was established November 4. 1938 

This award comes with an original photograph of the award in wear, seen on the Hungarian Honvéd private. Nice item to frame together for the display.
