Description
Hungarian medals and awards from the 1950 period are getting more scares and hard to find. Many awards where replaced by new models after the 1956 uprising, as the national state coat of arms in line with socialist heraldry, with a layout closely resembling that of the Soviet Union’s.
The three awards are from the period before 1956
The Medal for Labour Merit
The Labour Merit award was established in 1953 by the Hungarian Parliament for “citizens who have made outstanding merits in the service of the interests of the Hungarian People’s Republic”.
In 1963, the Presidential Council also abolished the award, replacing it with the bronze degree of the Labour Order of Merit. Total awarded: 20.652
The Order of Labour Merit (bronze)
One of the most emblematic awards of the socialist era is the Work Order of Merit. The civilian award, founded in 1948, was awarded under various forms and names for 41 years, making it the longest-lived award of the era.
From the award criteria; “It was awarded to civilians who have made outstanding merits in serving and promoting the interests of the Hungarian People’s Republic, in the field of building socialism.”
