Hungary – National Defense Cross
Description
This Cross was originally founded by Miklos Horthy to reward Hungarian citizens that fought against communist dangers, such as Bela Kun in 1919, but it was also awarded for service during the interwar periods to Hungarian nationals in territories lost after WW1 to neighboring countries, for upholding Hungarian culture.
The reverse inscription translates to “For the Homeland.”
The Cross is made of silver gilt Tombac alloy. This unfortunate combination usually results into bubbles on the crosses surface and makes it a extra hard to find in good condition.
