Hungary – Numbered badge of the Hungarian Partisan Association

Awarded to full members of the association, who participated in armed resistance to the inter war regimes, participation in the fight against the Franco regime in the Spanish civil-war and German occupation during WW2.

 

Many awardees where also captured soldiers, taken prisoner of war, that enrolled in the resistance through the anti-fascist schools set up by the Soviet’s. There where many criteria’s after 1945 to participate in the Hungarian Partisan Association, as well as political advantages in the political climate greatly influenced by the Soviet occupation.

 

The badge could be worn both to civilian clothes, as well as to military uniforms. The badges where a sign of a trusted member of the communist cadre and a high standing political loyalty.

The X in the front of the badge marks the Hungarian and Soviet cooperation and the crossed PPSh. machine-guns the armed participation.

The text on the reverse side says; “Fegyverrel a Hazáaért” (With Arms for the homeland) and the membership number engraved.

 

Usually these are the few numbered badges (Hungary not having a tradition of numbered badges/medals). The known badge numbers ranges from 1 to 3800+
