Description
The Meritorious Service Medal was established in 1953 by the Parliament of the Hungarian People’s Republic. Members of the armed forces could receive it “in recognition of merits achieved in serving and promoting the interests of the Hungarian Republic”.
In 1954, the shape of the medal was changed from a simple one sided medal to the enamelled multi-pieces one , and in 1957, the coat of arms was replaced on the new medals.
In 1964, this ungraded form of the Service Medal was abolished for the Meritorious Service Medal with 10+ years served, and a 5 year interval between next medal indicating years served..
