Description
The Icelandic Order of the Falcon was instituted on 3 July 1921 by King Christian X of Denmark and of Iceland. The order was awarded to both Icelandic citizens and foreigners for services to Iceland and to the welfare and honour of the country.
Large gilt-edged white enamel cross clechée with squared ends to the arms, on a crown suspension with loop for neck ribbon. The face with an oval central blue enamel medallion bearing a gilt Icelandic falcon, standing, wings outstretched, facing left. The reverse with an oval central white enamel medallion with crowned monogram of King Christians X, encircled by a blue enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters “Fyrsti Desember 1918” (1 December 1918). The date is to commemorate that Iceland was a recognized country in personal union with Denmark.
