Iceland – Order of the Falcon (knight, second type)

Description

The Icelandic Order of the Falcon was instituted on 3 July 1921 by King Christian X of Denmark and of Iceland. Iceland became an independent republic on 17 June 1944 and the statutes of the Order were revised on 11 July 1944, most notably the crown suspension being replaced by a fleur de lys.

The order may be awarded to both Icelandic citizens and foreigners for services to Iceland and to mankind. Gilt-edged white enamel cross clechée with squared ends to the arms, on fleur de lys suspension with ring for ribbon. The face with an oval central blue enamel medallion bearing a gilt Icelandic falcon, standing, wings outstretched, facing left.
