Iran – Medal of the order of Lion and the Sun (silver medal)
Description
The medal was instituted on 16 December 1925 in three grades the day after Reza Shah Pahlavi took the Imperial oath and became first Shah of the Pahlavi dynasty. The medal replaced the Qajar decoration of similar design and was awarded for honourable service. It was not awarded after August 1941 following the invasion of Iran by the Allied powers and the enforced abdication of Reza Shah in favor of his son. On the reverse with a circular central medallion inscribed in Farsi characters ‘Pahlavi Shahanshah-e- Iran’ (Pahlavi, the King of Kings of Iran), circumscribed above ‘Beh paadaash-e-Khedmat’ (on honour of service) and dated ‘25 Azar 1304’ (16 December 1925).
The medal was made by Arthus Bertrand of Paris.
