Iran/Persia – Order of the Lion and the Sun, GC set
Description
The Imperial Order of the Lion and the Sun was instituted by Fat´h Ali Shah of the Qajar dynasty in 1808 to honour foreign officials (later extended to Iranians) who had rendered distinguished services to Iran. In 1925, under the Pahlavi dynasty the Order continued as the Order of Homayoun with new insignia.
Type IV (from 1872 -). Badge in silver with six green enamelled rays, each star point with six faceted rays, centerpiece shows a hand painted enameled lion and sun insignia, inclusive of suspension in near mint condition. The breast star in silver with eight green enameled rays, each star point with eight faceted rays, centerpiece shows a hand painted enameled lion and sun insignia, in extremely fine condition. Comes with an original sash and case. The producer is Saniolmamalek, Teheran. The case is a bit warped.
