Luxembourg – Order of the Oak Crown, (commander)

Description

The order was founded by King-Grand Duke William II of the Netherlands and Luxembourg by decree on 29 December 1941 and it is the oldest order of the nation. The order is conferred on civilian and military personnel for extraordinary services rendered and also for accomplishments in the arts. The design of the insignia was greatly influenced by the imperial Russian order of St. George. In fact, the design, the original class structure, method of wearing and the ribbons were all almost identical to the Russian order. The reason was that Tsar Alexander I of Russia, awarded the order to King William II after the battle of Waterloo and it was the favorite order of the king.  

This badge is an early type, 1841-1890 and has also the old type of ribbon used prior to 1890. No hallmarks and it is made of gilt silver. No hallmarks but probably made by a French producer. Between 1842-1891, 1147 persons were awarded with the commander’s badge.
