Description

The Order was originally established by Duke Adolph of Nassau on 8 May 1858. Abolished when Nassau was subsumed into the German Empire in 1866, it was reinstated as a Grand Ducal order in 1890 and recognizes meritorious actions or heroic deeds in the name of Luxembourg.

Circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced ball suspension. The face with the head of Adolph of Nassau facing right above a laurel branch, circumscribed “ADOLPHUS MAGNUS DUX LUXEMBURGI NASSOVIÆ DUX” (Adolph Grand Duke of Luxembourg and Duke of Nassau), signed “F. Rasumny”. The reverse inscribed “VIRTUTI” (Merit) within a wreath of oak, on original ribbon.
