The badge was instituted in 1941 by Quisling for special achievements for front service or special achievements within the party, Nasjonal Samling. The decoration was based on the iron cross and came in three classes. The decoration was based on the iron cross and came in three classes. The German occupation forces did not accept this decoration because it competed with the Iron cross, but they were produced anyway.
