Description

The decoration was instituted in 1901 but was first awarded in 1918. The Merit Cross was awarded in recognition of particular services rendered to the Norwegian Red Cross and for humanitarian work. The president of the Norwegian Red Cross wears the decoration.

Ca 550 persons has been awarded the decoration. There are five types, this is type II and this type was used until 1937. After 1937 the did not use the lion on the top of the crown. The decoration is produced by J. Tostrup, Oslo.
