USSR – Order of the Badge of Honour

Description

This award is the Soviet “Order of Honor” (Орден «Знак Почёта»), one of the most prestigious civilian orders of the Soviet Union.
Background and History:

Established: November 25, 1935
Purpose: Awarded for outstanding achievements in industry, science, art, literature, education and other civilian fields. It could also be given for exceptional achievements in sports or community service.
Recipients: Individuals, organizations, factories, companies and even some cities.

Description of the Order:

Material: Silver with enamel.
Design:
A shield with red enamel containing the inscription:
“Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!” (Proletarians of all countries, unite!)
Two figures – a worker and a peasant woman – marching forward with a flag.
A red star with the hammer and sickle at the top.
Below is the text “Знак Почёта” (Order of Honor).
Ribbon: Originally yellow with three narrow blue stripes, later the colors changed over time.

Historical Significance:

One of the most famous civilian orders of the Soviet Union and one of the most common awards for non-military services.
Awarded approximately 1.5 million times before being replaced in 1988 by the Order of Honor of the Soviet Union (Орден Почёта).
During its existence, the order was awarded to both Soviet and foreign citizens.
