Description

The order of St.Sava was created by King Milan I Obrenovic of Serbia on 23 January 1883. It was awarded in recognition of particular services rendered to the Church as well as for praiseworthy activity in the scientific and cultural fields. Mainly a civilian order but could also be awarded to military personnel.  

White enamel and silver gilt Maltese cross with ball-tipped finials and with blue enamel inset edges, with the Serbian double headed eagle between the arms, on swivel crown suspension. The face with a oval central white enamel and gilt medallion bearing the effigy of St.Sava  within a blue enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters in old church Slavonic “ONE´S OWN WORK ACHIEVES ALL”.  The reverse with a oval central white enamel medallion bearing the gilt year 1883, the year it was founded, within a blue enamel ring with a gilt wreath. This badge is the third type, 1921-1941 and made of gilt silver and suspended on a white neck ribbon with blue edges. Made by Huguenin, Switzerland.
