France – The National Order of the Legion of Honour (Officer)

Description

The National Order of the Legion of Honour (Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur), formerly the Royal Order of the Legion of Honour (Ordre royal de la Légion d’honneur), is the highest French order of merit, both military and civil. Established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, it has been retained (with occasional slight alterations) by all later French governments and regimes.

This set of Légion d’honneur, Officier (Officer) with the cross-miniature originates from the Fourth Republic, after 1946 when the date “1870” on the obverse was replaced by a single star.

The Officier (Officer): insignia worn on left breast suspended from a ribbon with a rosette. There are minor enamel damages and it’s in over all worn but nice condition.
